National Hunting & Fishing Day 2019

September 28, 2019

Anglers can fish for free in New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 28, as the state celebrates National Hunting and Fishing Day.

Anyone can fish for free in public fishing waters throughout the state Saturday, Sept. 28, but everyone must observe bag limits and all other rules and regulations. For more information, please visit www.wildlife.state.nm.us.

For information about where to fish and what to use, consult the department’s weekly fishing and stocking report. Maps of public fishing waters, lists of where to find family-friendly fishing and tips on how to fish also can be found on the department website.

Now wait a minute, isn’t it called “hunting and fishing day”?  I see you can catch a fish, but what about getting a deer?

Outrageous!

New Mexico Shooting Sports Association - NRA Sanction Organization

Outrageous” – Rep. Daymon Ely (D)
In an article by the Santa Fe New Mexican, State Representative Daymon Ely said that it is outrageous for the Sheriffs not to enforce a law. What’s outrageous is for Santa Fe politicians, bought and paid for by special interest groups, to pass dangerous and unconstitutional laws.

The Sheriffs pointed out the flaws in the Red Flag bill proposed last year and likely to return in 2020. But the Governor and her allies didn’t like that. The Sheriffs swore an oath to uphold the Constitutions of the United State and of New Mexico, but so did the legislators in Santa Fe.

What’s the difference between the Roundhouse Radicals and the Sheriffs?

Well, the Santa Fe legislators have taken thousands from the anti-gun lobby. The Sheriffs have boldly stood for our rights and against the dangerous overreach of the Roundhouse.

National Geographic Endangered Species by State – Mexican Wolf

NEW MEXICO

MEXICAN WOLF

Canis lupus baileyi

PHOTOGRAPH BY JOEL SARTORE, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PHOTO ARK

This small wolf is a subspecies of gray wolf, native to New Mexico, Arizona, and northwest Mexico. Once numbering in the thousands, Mexican wolves were nearly extinct by the 1970s. The U.S. and Mexican governments then collaborated to capture a handful of remaining wild wolves and start a captive breeding and release program to prevent extinction. The program worked: About 100 wolves now live in the wild in New Mexico and Arizona, though poaching remains a threat to the fragile population.

********************

I am hoping that those of you who enjoy your wolf and coyote hunts are able to distinguish the Mexican Wolf from the others and can avoid shooting them.  As conscientious hunters and stewards of the land, we need to let this species thrive.

Silver Spur Gun & Blade Show Discount

This is my favorite gun show held in the area.  Kim and Monty that run this show are wonderful people and they take care of their vendors and attendees.  If you are active military, bring your ID and get $3 off admission.  If you are an NRA member, show your member card and save a $1, or print the flyer below and use it to save a $1.

Albuquerque’s Dangerous Overreach!

New Mexico Shooting Sports Association - NRA Sanction Organization
The Albuquerque City Council is reacting to recent events by issuing a blanket endorsement and support for gun control. With no real ability to change gun policy, the City of Albuquerque is taking it upon themselves to use precious time to issue a “non-binding” resolution.
To stop them from adding momentum to the anti-gunners’ efforts to limit our rights, we need to stop this legislation. Here are the actions you can take to help stop this dangerous overreach:

Step One: Call the Albuquerque City Councilors and tell them to vote NO on R-179!

District One:       Ken Sanchez       (505) 768-3183
District Two:       Isaac Benton       (505) 768-3186
District Three:    Klarissa Pena      (505) 768-3127
District Four:      Brad Winter        (505) 768-3101
District Five:       Cynthia Borrego (505) 768-3189
District Six:         Pat Davis             (505) 768-3152
District Seven:    Diane Gibson      (505) 768-3136
District Eight:     Trudy Jones         (505) 768-3106
District Nine:      Don Harris          (505) 768-3123

Step Two: Attend the Albuquerque City Council meeting when R-179 will be heard.
