NMSSA Annual Meeting – 2nd Edition

With the goal of a statewide Second Amendment coalition under New Mexico Shooting Sports Association, we must be willing to reform and improve our organization. Opening the door to new growth, procedures, and faces will allow NMSSA to build an organization that will represent all our current and future members.

Reform must start now.  We cannot wait for the next legislative crisis to creep up on us because we are not ready for the fight.  With bold reform in mind, here are some immediate changes and improvements we would like to make starting this summer:

STEP ONE: ADDING VALUE TO MEMBERSHIP

To recruit and retain members for NMSSA, we need to start reigniting the relationships with gun stores, shooting ranges, and other Second Amendment organizations that support our cause. These relationships will allow us to add value to memberships by offering special discounts and other benefits.

In addition to added member benefits, we will begin to hold social gatherings, such as: bullets and beers, range and cocktail time, etc. with an emphasis of using local ranges with a social gathering to follow.

STEP TWO: RENEWED COMMITMENT TO LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS

We can build a well-rounded organization that focuses on the shooting sports, education, and legislative affairs, but first we must recommit to the fight. NRA-ILA has been a loyal supporter and partner for NMSSA and now is our opportunity to assist them in the legislative battles that are sure to come in 2018 and 2019.

STEP THREE: FULL REBRAND OF NMSSA

NMSSA is an organization with a long and storied past that is built from tradition, but it is incumbent on today’s leadership to keep the association looking forward, professional, and welcoming to all. To accomplish these goals and to set the standard in New Mexico, we are looking at full rebrand of NMSSA, including, but not limited to: a new logo, website, and an investment in social media.

Other information about the Annual Meeting

I hope you will be able to attend the annual meeting on June 10, 2017, at the Los Ranchos Village Offices.  6718 Rio Grande Blvd NW, Los Ranchos De Albuquerque, NM 87107.

The business meeting will start at 11:00am and lunch will be served.  The major portion of the agenda will focus on the coalition mentioned above.  We will also elect officers for 2017.  A ballot will be posted at NMSSA.org/ballot no later than May 20.  If anyone wants to jump in and fill any of the Board of Executive Officer positions, please email nce42@outlook.com  Please include your name a a brief description of your reasons for wanting the position you will run for and your qualifications.  One or two paragraphs should do the trick.

We have three cases of CCI .22 ammo (standard velocity) for use only by youth programs.  We are not allowed to “sell” it, but since we have many activities under the umbrella of NMSSA – the cost of the ammo should be reimbursed to our treasury.  The reimbursement amount is $275 per case.  For the record, we will need a statement that the ammo will be used in youth programs.

We will also discuss using funds donated by Mr. Charles Phelan to purchase firearms to raffle as fund raisers.  If anyone else would like to donate to our 2A coalition effort, please send a check to NMSSA c/o Gayle Dye at 4608 Jamaica NE Albuquerque, NM  87111.

If you cannot attend the annual meeting, we will have a limited phone bridge allowing you to call in free of charge.  More information will be provided to those who indicate they will use the phone bridge.
