NMSSA Weekend Legislative Update: March 6th

New Mexico Shooting Sports Association - NRA Sanction Organization

With just two weeks to go in the 2021 Legislative Session, we wrapped up a successful week. In the House Appropriations and Finance Committee, HB102, the taxpayer funds give-a-way to anti-gun groups, was tabled on concerns on the structure and source of the recurring funding the bill called for. It is possible that the bill will be brought back, but the clock is starting to loom large over legislative deliberations. HB193, the expansion of the “red-flag” gun confiscation law, has now been sitting on the floor of the house for a week with no movement on the bill. SB224, the firearm storage mandate or “criminal protection act,” is still in the Senate Judiciary Committee awaiting action.

We are still monitoring the others bills we have sent out alerts on, but at this point in the session, our primary focus is on stopping HB193 and SB224 as those two bills are the furthest along and stand the highest chance of passing. We will keep you apprised of any and all developments; and we will send out alerts if any of the gun related bills will be heard.
