Important Developments in Albuquerque Mayor’s Race

It’s NOT over!
Yesterday, Democratic candidate for Mayor of Albuquerque Pete Dinelli threw in with Mayors Against Illegal Guns while taking a shot at his opponent’s NRA rating and the support his opponent has received from Second Amendment supporters along the way.  In the press release below, Dinelli claims to support the right to keep and bear arms, but he also emphatically embraces MAIG’s so-called “common sense reform” agenda.  According to the organization’s own website, this includes elimination of all private gun transfers and bans on semi-automatic firearms & standard capacity magazines.
In contrast, RJ Berry, the Republican candidate running for re-election, was a strong supporter of legislation protecting our Second Amendment rights during his tenure in the New Mexico State House, and as mayor, he has successfully partnered with NRA to host the annual National Police Shooting Championships at ABQ’s Shooting Range Park – an event that provides a significant economic boost to the city and local retailers every September.
Mayor Berry will be hosting a campaign kickoff event this coming Saturday, September 7th, from 9:30am-10:30am at 12000 Constitution Avenue NE (at Juan Tabo Blvd) in Albuquerque.  RSVP to info@mayorberry.com.  The campaign will begin door knocking and phone banking activities at 10:30am and will provide lunch for volunteers who stick around to help with these important campaign activities.  Early voting will begin in this important race on September 18.  Please consider attending this event and showing your support for Mayor Berry – the difference between the leading candidates in this race couldn’t be more clear!

Dinelli Signs Petition Demanding Action on Background Checks
Joins Mayors Against Illegal Guns in Calling on Congress to Act

ALBUQUERQUE – Today, Democratic Mayoral Candidate Pete Dinelli made the following statement after he signed the Mayors Against Illegal guns petition that urges Congress to pass common sense gun legislation:

“While I am a strong supporter of the protections afforded by the 2nd Amendment regarding the right to bear arms, I am also a firm believer in common sense gun reform. Keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill should be one of the top priorities for Congress right now.

“On my first day as Mayor, I will sign on with the Mayors Against Illegal Guns and work with a bipartisan group of mayors from across the nation to get good, common sense gun reform passed. I believe that protecting the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens coincides with keeping guns out of the wrong hands. As Mayor, I will work tirelessly to defend the freedoms we deserve while will striving to keep Albuquerque families safe from gun violence.”

Dinelli is running against Republican Mayor RJ Berry who has an “A” rating from the NRA and isproudly and publicly touting his support from the NRA.
