The Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) is an organization which supports sanctioned cowboy “competitive shooting” events and associated comradery, is headquartered at Founder’s Ranch just south of Edgewood, NM & includes both men & women’s divisions. Their World Championships were just held here in June. Free fun and watch the 4-corner regional shootouts all day. All weapons are of the relative cowboy era (1880-1912). These guns have all been “tricked out” for ultimate speed and accuracy and the performance of these folks has to be seen to be believed. Events include speed shooting of all kinds: rifles, shotguns & pistols. There’s even mounted shooting (from a horse) where balloons are the targets. Period clothing is as big a deal as the shooting. Just think of this as a shooting rodeo. Very nostalgic & worth the trip. Wear your boots and hat. Check out their website: sassnet.com.
