{"id":3008,"date":"2022-01-28T14:53:37","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T21:53:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newmexicoshootingsports.com\/shootingblog\/?p=3008"},"modified":"2022-01-28T14:53:37","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T21:53:37","slug":"atf-to-start-confiscating-triggers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newmexicoshootingsports.com\/shootingblog\/atf-to-start-confiscating-triggers\/","title":{"rendered":"ATF to Start Confiscating Triggers!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JcMi4Ukf7s4?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is coming after certain aftermarket triggers starting now, according to leaked emails from the agency obtained by Gun Owners of America.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, ATF agents are going to start confiscating Rare Breed\u2019s Forced Reset Triggers (FRTs) and BDU\u2019s Wide Open Triggers on the grounds that they are unregistered \u201cmachine guns\u201d in violation of the Hughes Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease be prepared to take possession of any documents and FRTs the manufacturer, distributor or retailer offers to surrender.\u00a0 They may choose to abandon the items in which case give them a forfeiture of property notice,\u201d states one of the leaked emails, per GOAs alert (see video above).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the manufacturer\/seller refuses to abandon the items, please take custody of the items, and seize them for forfeiture so that they can be properly noticed,\u201d it continues.<\/p>\n<p>GOA also notes that in the correspondences ATF refers to those in possession of FRTs as \u201cdefendants,\u201d suggesting that they\u2019ve already committed a crime.<\/p>\n<p>Per federal law, possession of an unregistered \u201cmachine gun\u201d is a felony offense that carries with it a prison sentence of up to 10 years and a fine not to exceed $250,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith its new reckless interpretation that FRTs are machine guns, ATF is playing games with your life,\u201d said Phil Reboli, senior policy advisor for GOA.<\/p>\n<p>Rare Breed\u2019s FRT-15 works mostly like a normal AR-style cassette-type trigger pack. It\u2019s a drop-in assembly with one extra function: after a round is fired and the bolt cycles, it cocks the hammer and at the same time, resets the trigger, as GunsAmerica previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/rare-breed-showcasing-non-nfa-frt-15-forced-reset-trigger\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how the FRT-15 gives shooters the ability to repeatedly pull the trigger quickly, similar to how practice with a light trigger can also be used to shoot rapid strings of fire.
