Even with the holidays upon us, we are sure that you are already thinking about the 2022-2023 hunts!<\/h3>\n

As of today you have exactly 91 days to plan, read draw odds reports, scheme on the best way to draw and get your applications in. Here is what you need to know to start planning your hunt(s).<\/p>\n

Rules and Information Booklet<\/h2>\n

Information about rules, seasons, fees and more is available in the 2022-2023 Hunting Rules & Information booklet<\/a> online now in English and Spanish. Hunters are encouraged to review season dates, application deadlines and other information before applying for licenses or going afield.<\/p>\n

Important dates:<\/p>\n

Applications open online<\/a> Jan. 19.<\/p>\n

The application deadline for bear and turkey permits 5 p.m. Feb. 9.<\/p>\n

The deadline to file your harvest report without a late fee Feb. 15.<\/p>\n

Deadline to apply and be eligible for the incentives<\/a> 5 p.m. March 9.<\/p>\n

The application deadline for big-game licenses is 5 p.m. March 16.<\/p>\n

Rules and Information Booklet Announcement<\/h2>\n

We have delved deep into our resources and are coming up a bit short. If you haven’t heard, there is a nationwide shortage of paper!<\/p>\n

Due to this shortage, we have had to cut back on the number of Rules and Information Booklets that we have ordered. There will be a LIMITED supply of\u00a0Rules and Information Booklets<\/a> available at the Game and Fish Department offices in New Mexico<\/a>. We are expecting the shipment to arrive in mid-January.<\/p>\n

Please keep in mind that the Rules and Information booklet is\u00a0only\u00a0a summary of the laws and rules for hunting in New Mexico. For a complete\u00a0and specific\u00a0list\u00a0of the laws and rules that govern hunting, fishing, trapping and other outdoor activities, view\u00a0the appropriate statutes in\u00a0Chapter 17, Chapter 30 and Chapter 66 NMSA 1978 and\u00a0rules in 19.30.1 through 19.36.3\u00a0NMAC. In\u00a0developing\u00a0the Spanish edition of the Rules and Information Booklet, we tried to incorporate common Spanish terms and phrases. We realize that New Mexico has many Spanish dialects that have evolved over hundreds of years. If you need clarification on information in the Spanish booklet, or if you have suggestions on how to improve the translations in the document please email\u00a0DGF-Translation@state.nm.us<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that the 2021-2022 Rules and Information Booklet<\/a> is valid through March 31, 2022.<\/p>\n

#HuntNM22 – All you need to know virtual series<\/h2>\n

The Department is finalizing a virtual series to help answer your questions about the 2022-2023 Big Game applications.<\/p>\n

Last year, our biologists talked about herd health, survey techniques and answered questions about wildlife management. The Department also hosted a how-to-apply live series and answered questions about hunter education and reading the draw odds report. Visit the Department’s YouTube Channel<\/a> to view last year’s videos.<\/p>\n

As we prepare for the 2022-2023 series, we want your help planning topics that you are interested in. Please email us your questions<\/a> or ideas for topics to help us plan the most useful series.
