Deadlines are approaching fast:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

– March 10 at 5:00 p.m.<\/strong> – Deadline to qualify for the incentive program.<\/a><\/p>\n

– March 17 at 5:00 p.m.<\/strong> –\u00a0Deadline to apply for draw licenses for Barbary sheep, bighorn sheep, deer, elk, ibex, javelina, pronghorn and oryx. Deadline to submit late 2020\u201321 harvest reports for deer, elk, pronghorn and turkey; an $8 late fee will apply. Apply now.<\/a><\/p>\n

– April 7<\/strong> –\u00a0Deadline to submit 2020\u201321 harvest reports for Barbary sheep, ibex, javelina, oryx and trapper license holders to be eligible for big-game licenses. Submit report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Disabled and Military – Submit Paperwork ASAP<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
\"Elk\"<\/a>Mobility\u00a0Impaired<\/strong>:<\/a> MI certification by the Department is required prior to submitting an application for MI-only pronghorn, oryx, elk or deer hunts. To qualify for MI certification, an individual must have a permanent impairment that:<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0<\/span>limits his\/her mobility to a walker, wheelchair or crutches;<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0<\/span>or one or more permanent disabilities or conditions which substantially limit the individual\u2019s ability to walk.<\/p>\n

The MI certification form is available online<\/a>. This form must be signed by the applicant\u2019s physician and attest that one or more of the above mobility-impaired conditions apply.<\/p>\n

The MI card holder must purchase and possess a habitat stamp and habitat management and access validation if applicable. All other laws and rules must be followed.<\/p>\n

Military only or returning veteran<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>– Proof of service\/eligibility must now be provided to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish\u00a0prior<\/strong>\u00a0to applying for any military only hunts, Fort Bliss or returning Iraq\/Afghanistan hunts. You will not be able to apply for these hunts until you have provided documentation of service to the Department,\u00a0your documents have been verified\u00a0and<\/strong>\u00a0entered into the system.<\/p>\n

When applying, if you do not see the military-only hunt codes or returning Iraq\/Afghanistan veteran oryx hunt codes, it means the Department has not yet verified your eligibility.<\/p>\n

The Department strongly recommends that you DO NOT<\/strong> wait until the last minute to provide your documents. Due to the influx of draw applications at the end of the application period, the Department cannot guarantee that your documents will be entered into the system if they are submitted after\u00a0<\/span>March 12, 202<\/strong>1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Help, Where Can I Hunt?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
\"Map\"<\/a>Depending on the unit you choose, knowing that you are on public land may be easier than in other areas. If you are hunting large areas of U.S. Forest Land, say in the Gila National Forest, then it will be a little easier to know you are still located in the forest. Let\u2019s say, though, that where you are hunting, the land status is really mixed with private land, State Trust land, Bureau of Land Management land and U.S. Fish and Wildlife land. It all of a sudden may have become a little more confusing. However, don\u2019t get discouraged. I will provide you with some advice to help you navigate the land status concern and help you feel more comfortable knowing that you are hunting legally.<\/p>\n
