The list of anti-gun companies continues to grow.\u00a0 Sometimes they aren’t a surprise, sometimes they are.\u00a0 About ten years ago I was with a group of people traveling through China.\u00a0 I noticed the ditch on the side of the road didn’t have the normal algae-green water, but instead, the water was almost a glowing blue color.\u00a0 I asked a local why the water was bright blue.\u00a0 The response was, “In a few minutes you will know why.”.\u00a0 Sure enough, on the horizon I noticed a huge, modern, Levi’s factory.\u00a0 When Levi’s pulled out of the US, or at least most of the manufacturing, they went to China like many other companies.\u00a0 Did they do it for cheap labor, maybe, but one reason many companies go to China is there are essentially no pollution standards.\u00a0 In this case, Levi would dump their leftover dye right on the land, letting it flow across the countryside.\u00a0 Something tells me if a dye can permanently alter cotton, it can’t be good for people or wildlife.\u00a0 I was disgusted by what I saw and never bought another pair of Levis.\u00a0 Fast forward, and now I have another reason per the article I quote below:<\/p>\n

Support an international boycott of Levis<\/p><\/div>\n

In the best attempt to date to unseat\u00a0Edward Stack<\/a>\u00a0as the nation\u2019s Virtue Signaler in Chief, Levi Strauss\u2019s CEO Chip Bergh bravely announced this week his company\u2019s support of \u201cyouth activists\u201d working to end the \u201cgun violence epidemic\u201d in America and encouraged other \u201cbusiness leaders\u201d to do the same.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs business leaders with power in the public and political arenas, we simply cannot stand by silently when it comes to the issues that threaten the very fabric of the communities where we live and work,\u201d he said in a recent op-ed published by\u00a0Fortune<\/a>. \u201cWhile taking a stand can be unpopular with some, doing nothing is no longer an option.\u201d<\/p>\n

Naming his brand among the \u201cpioneers of the American West\u201d and the \u201cgreat symbols of American freedom,\u201d Bergh outlines three ways he\u2019s hoping to restrict the constitutional rights of his fellow Americans.<\/p>\n

First, he plans to establish the Safer Tomorrow Fund, which will dole out $1 million in \u201cphilanthropic grants\u201d to \u201cnonprofits and youth activists who are working to end gun violence in America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next, Bergh and his company will join Everytown for Gun Safety\u2019s new Business Leaders for Gun Safety coalition. Roughly paraphrasing\u00a0Everytown\u2019s website<\/a>, this group is working to join banks and other businesses doing their darndest to bankrupt gun companies and marginalize gun owners.<\/p>\n

Finally, Bergh hopes to incentivize his employees to join him in his righteous crusade. Levi Strauss will double its usual employee donation match to anti-gun organizations and pay employees for sixty working hours per year (5 hours per month) to volunteer for the same organizations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re encouraging our employees to use their time to make an impact,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Bergh assures his readers he doesn\u2019t want to repeal the Second Amendment or suggest that gun owners aren\u2019t responsible. He\u2019s a former Army officer, after all, and he took an oath to support and defend the Constitution.<\/p>\n

Those constitutional rights don\u2019t apply to everyone, of course. Bergh quotes retired four-star general Michael Hayden, who said in a promotional piece for the Giffords Center that \u201csome people\u2026 should never have access to any weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a dramatic conclusion, Bergh explains that Levi Strauss has \u201cnever been afraid to take an unpopular stand to support a greater good,\u201d highlighting his company\u2019s support for integration before the Civil Rights Act and for same-sex couples all the way back in the 1990s.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile each one of these stands may have been controversial at the time, history proved the company right in the long run,\u201d he says, courageously. \u201cAnd I\u2019m convinced that while some will disagree with our stand to end gun violence, history will prove this position right too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Levi Strauss may have been at the forefront of the Civil Rights movement, but they\u2019re hardly the first company to take a stand against Guns:\u00a0The Great American Evil<\/em>. Following the Parkland massacre, a variety of companies, including\u00a0Walmart<\/a>,\u00a0Bank of America<\/a>,\u00a0Shopify<\/a>, and\u00a0Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods<\/a>, announced policies designed to curb the Second Amendment rights of their customers and business partners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
