It is a privilege for the public to be able to enjoy these public BLM locations to shoot. Not just around Sante Fe, but all across the country. It is our duty and obligation to clean up after ourselves. One rule for using public lands is to leave it better than how you found it. That means respecting the wildlife and vegetation, but just as important, not to litter. It goes beyond caring for our public land, but you can get fined for littering. Clean up your brass, targets, and don’t leave your beverage cans, ammo boxes, or other litter behind. Pick up your own mess and while you are at it, pick up the mess left by those irresponsible people who were there ahead of you. Thanks!<\/p>\n

Volunteers needed to clean up Santa Fe shooting areas<\/h2>\n

SANTA FE \u2013 Volunteers are invited to help clean up two outdoor shooting ranges on public land south of Santa Fe in October.<\/h1>\n

The Department of Game and Fish, Santa Fe County and the Bureau of Land Management are sponsoring clean-up days at designated shooting areas off Old Buckman Road and at Camel Tracks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great opportunity to clean up these areas,\u201d said Jessica Fisher, shooting program coordinator for the department. \u201cWe\u2019ll have a dumpster and trash bags available and with just a little help we can make a huge impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Camel Tracks and Old Buckman Road designated shooting areas are heavily used by Santa Fe area shooters, some of whom have left behind spent shells, used targets and other debris.<\/p>\n

The clean-up dates:<\/p>\n

9 a.m. to noon Oct. 10<\/b> \u2013 Camels Tracks shooting area off Santa Fe County Road 56C on the mesa south of Santa Fe just past the airport and old polo grounds.<\/p>\n

9 a.m. to noon Oct. 17 <\/b>\u2013 Old Buckman Road shooting area off Santa Fe County Road 77 just past the Las Campanas subdivision and on the road to Diablo Canyon and the Rio Grande.<\/p>\n

Civic groups, sportsmen\u2019s organizations, outdoor advocates and others interested in keeping public lands unspoiled are encouraged to participate. Volunteers are asked to bring rakes, shovels, gloves, outdoor work clothes food and beverages. Department staff will assist in the clean-up efforts and provide firearm safety information.<\/p>\n
